There are many diets out there that will help you lose weight. I’m not talking about fad diets, but real diet plans that are designed to help you lose a certain amount of pounds each week. Most of these plans offer general guidelines for you to follow. While these guidelines are good, it doesn’t hurt to have a few lose weight tips that you can use to increase your chances of success.
Tip #1: Join a Support Group – Studies have shown that people who diet with a buddy, or have some type of support system are more likely to successfully lose weight than those who go it alone. You could find a supportive friend or family member that wants to diet and join forces to help each other out.
If you don’t have a friend or family member to buddy with, think about joining an online diet support group. There are several good ones. Usually, you’ll pay a nominal monthly fee and have access to all kinds of advice, tips and email or forum support from people who understand what you’re going through.
This support will come in handy when you inevitably fall off the wagon during your diet. Instead of holding your head down in shame, or chastising yourself as being “bad” for messing up, you can share your experiences with others and they can help you keep your self-esteem up while continuing on.
Tip #2: Pick a Diet that Allows You to Cheat – There are strict diets that are pretty draconian in what you can and can’t eat. While many people have success with this type of diet, there are those who just hate all the restrictions.
If you’re someone who has tried a strict diet and couldn’t last on it because it was just too much of a pain, then you should seriously consider a diet plan that incorporates cheat days. Cheat days allow you to go off the plan for a little bit and eat pretty much what you want.
So, if you decide to have an ice cream cone after eating a turkey burger, then go right ahead and do it – without all that guilt!
After your cheat day, you’ll go right back on the regular healthy eating plan. Believe it or not, cheating a little bit actually helps you to stay on track with your diet because you’re not feeling cranky due to having to give up all your favorite foods.
Tip #3: Drink that Water – Our bodies are made up of mostly water and we tend to get dehydrated pretty quickly. Maybe you’ve heard this one before, but it bares repeating because drinking water can help you lose weight faster. You don’t have to drink a ton of water. You can carry around a water bottle and keep it filled, then sip out of it during the day. Drinking water before meals will curb your appetite and prevent overeating.
Tip #4: Choose an Exercise that’s Right for You – There are all kinds of ways to exercise. What’s great for someone else, may be unappealing to you. Walking is the easiest exercise you can do – it’s a great low-impact workout. But, there is also biking, hiking, skiing, swimming, playing tennis, jogging, dancing, yoga, pilates and weight lifting.
Don’t feel pressured into doing a certain type of exercise. If you’re someone who “hates to exercise” maybe it’s because you haven’t found one that makes you feel good when doing it. Try a few different activities and see if one or more appeals to you. Don’t give up on this because exercise is an essential part of any weight loss plan.
Tip #5: Eliminate Stress – This is a tough one for many people because stress is built into everyday life, unless you live on a secluded tropical island. However, most people deal with their stress by eating. The most popular things to eat while feeling stressed is junk foods with a lot of fat.
How many times have you grabbed a candy bar, donut, bag of chips, etc. when stressed about something?
More times than you can count, I bet.
This is one reason why many people fail on their diets. Think of little ways that you can cut down on the stress in your life. If you feel yourself wanting to snack during stressful situations, make sure you have your own healthy snacks available, and make sure you actually eat them instead of the junk.
