Is Medifast The Easiest Diet To Lose Weight?

I’ve been on this diet for quite a while and am very happy with my results. I suppose that this might make me biased, but I have experienced the food and day to day life enough to be able to tell you about the high and low points. The other day, a coworker told me that she was evaluating diets that she wanted to start within the next couple of weeks. She was looking at a cleanse, a liquid only diet, and this one. She asked me: “in your honest opinion, is Medifast the easiest way to lose weight? If you had to go back and do it all over again, would you still pick this one?” I’ll answer this question (and explain my answer) in the following article.

Why Medifast Has Been Pretty Easy (At Least In My Experience): Before I tell you about my experiences on this diet, I have to tell you that I’ve been on many plans. I’ve had short term success on some, but most times, I just couldn’t stand to keep going long term either because the food was nasty or my quality of life was just bad.

I’ll say upfront that I lost tons of weight on Atkins / low carb diets but was so horribly grumpy and unbearable to live with that my daughter begged me to just stop. I would’ve probably killed for a piece of bread a time or two and I got very tired of eating meat and eggs. Eventually, I just couldn’t do it anymore.

In my opinion, Medifast is sort of the best of both worlds. It too is a low carb diet, but it’s not nearly as painful. There are many dessert type and snack type options. (Like pancakes, brownies, and icecream.) And, you eat six times per day so you aren’t as hungry as you may think. There are 70 food choices and you will make your own fresh, larger meal each day. Still, you don’t have to do a lot of work because the foods are prepackaged. You’ll just need to blend or assemble them. And, you won’t need to count any calories. As long as you eat the foods you’re given, you’ll be just fine.

Why Medifast Works So Well: In my opinion, this diet works for basically three reasons. You get to eat often. You get to eat decent foods. And, doing both of these puts your body in a metabolic state called ketosis which is where your body burns fat rather than carbs. This is how South Beach and all of the other high protein diets work, but as I said before this one is a lot less painful for most folks.

This experience has been more appealing to me because I’m not doing a lot of planning, calculating and cooking. I don’t have to just drink liquids every day. And I’m not starving myself and am eating real food. I do get to cook a meal that I choose each day which does give me some variety and I do change up the prepackaged foods sometimes by adding fat free syrups, fat free cheese, and salsa. I also use the pudding and other foods to make “safe” baked goods like cookies and muffins.

So, this existence is quite bearable and I don’t feel like I’m missing out on too much. I’m about half the person (literally) that I once was, but I don’t feel as though the sacrifice was horribly difficult. So, yes, for me at least, Medifast has been the easiest way for me to loose weight. However, I guess your own personality is going to determine if you experience the same. If you’re someone who likes to plan, research, and cook meals, this may not be the diet for you. But, if you value convenience and effectiveness over having tons of choices and control, then you might like this one as I have.
